Flint Unity Farming Project- Teaching children to appreciate Nature & the planet through Agriculture"

#FlintUnityFarmingProjectStory  The purpose of the Marshall Foundation is to promote a better community by inspiring area youth through education, mentoring, fitness &  gardening. For more info on the Marshall Foundation, visit  http://acure-foundation.yolasite.com/. Our goal is to obtain the closed down Wilkins Elementary to be the headquarters of our foundation. What makes our Farming Initiative different from other gardening projects in the area is that we are helping get Flint area children into college at Alcorn State University in Lorman, Mississippi and Rust College, near Memphis, Tennessee. We are networking to add on several more colleges to give more children more opportunities to experience higher learning. We will be teaching kids how to plant & grow vegetables that can offset the effects of lead exposure using a collegiate like curriculum to help inspire & build positive learning traits outside of their regular school work. The Flint Unity Farming Project will consist of a Non profit section, as well as the Business Sector with the  Trevis Rouser Lawn Service where we will hire our kids to work in the spring and summer cutting lawns & doing landscaping & hopefully shoveling snow in the winter time.  Locally I'd like thank Ms. Angela Stamps, Mr. Bob Johnson, former owner of the Sweet Leaf President of the North Side's Berston Bike Club ( http://www.kentakee.org/ ) , Mrs. Renee Harvey of the Flint Area Land Bank in getting the Trevis Rouser Memorial Gardens at Berston & for helping us acquire the 751 Addison to start our project.   We asked many  local Flint area businesses, foundations & organizations for donations to start this project and was denied by all of them. I  grew frustrated with the lack of support offered to us locally so I  started networking with friends & business owners nationally about the FUFP.   Aurora Innovations, over 2,391.6 Miles away from Flint spoke with me  & was intrigued by our plan and donated an abundant amount  in supplies &  equipment for us to start the  Flint Unity Farming Project. Less than 6 months later, the FUFP is recognized locally & nationally.  We are committed to helping the citizens of Flint, Michigan & children victims of the Flint Water Crisis. The NonProfit sector of our program has been a success & Our goal for is setting up the business side of our initiative for 2017. We'd like to start a chicken farm, egg farm, Cattle etc.  Businesses & corporations willing to help or assist in this endeavor, contact me. Thank you 6 months later WE are recognized by the city of Flint for our efforts Thanks to the kindness of Pastor Mrs. Henderson,  we will now teach the Winter indoor class there.  Because of the ongoing Flint Water Crisis, the Winter Indoor Gardening class  we will teach kids how to grow vegetables that will offset the harms of lead toxins. Our commitment is to help the people of Flint, Michigan, especially the children & families that suffered from the Flint Water Crisis, which is still ongoing. Some experts say it will take at least 10 years before the water situation will be corrected. We are working diligently to start this class next month. We are still in need of  supplies.  If you wish to assist, support,  give  or donate to this event, call/text/Voice me at 601-871-0645, or email me at 810mmg@gmail.com .  The goal of  the Marshall Foundation is to plant seeds in the minds of our kids today, for them to grow into positive leaders of the future-  something my Father, Ben Marshall used to tell his students.
Thank you

The Marshall Family Foundation was able to obtain the the lots of 751 Addison Street   Flint Michigan 48505, to be home of the Flint Unity Farming Project that started on July 30th 2016. This is an extension of the  Trevis Rouser Memorial Gardens @ Berston.  To see photo album & commentary from the event,  please visit https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1750265311855220&type=1&l=eea13af0b6www.

Ms. Angela Stamps President of Berston Bike Club  KASC  online at www.kentakee.org/  was a major part of this project, and Commissioner Nolden & President of Friends of Berston was a major help in getting this project completed.  Special thanks to  Aurora Innovations, home based in Eugene, Oregon and manufacture of the famous & widely used  Roots Organic fertilizer product line will be the official soil, fertilizer & nutrients sponsor for the Flint Unity Farming Project site.  For more info on Roots Organics & other top of the line products from Aurora Innovations, visit their website at  www.aurorainnovations.org/original-potting-soil.html . The goal of the Flint Unity Farming Project  is to keep our children from choosing to use drugs or crime. Gardening is scientifically proven to calm the mind & lessen stress. Mostly importantly, helps the mind make better decisions. I'm trying to help raise youthful leaders.  We are devoted to helping the school kids of Flint by promoting Academics, Athletics, Gardening & Fitness. to the kids of Flint, Michigan. Our first project, the Trevis Rouser Memorial community gardens was a success and gained a lot of community exposure. The Trevis Rouser garden gained over 1500 Likes and sparked alot of conversation locally and worldwide.  Distinguished  Dr. Panicker of Alcorn State University in Lorman, Mississippi is sending me a thousand different seeds to help start garden and his textbooks to help me teach Gardening class with.  The Farming Project will also consist of the "No Drugs 4 Life & the Increase the Peace" programs we've started locally thanks to work & efforts of  my co-worker, head of the Berstons Bike Club Ms.Angela Stamps. With the Flint Water Crisis the children are hurt and feel betrayed and think that their lives lack meaning. We want to inspire kids by putting shovels, rakes, and hedge shears in their hands, and not drugs, guns or knives.

Gardening is the new, natural way to relieve stress & clear ones thinking and is being used in prison yards to retirement and veteran homes to programs. I saw the benefit of offering farming & gardening classes to troubled youth.   It's called horticultural therapy, and I see how if applied and presented to inner city kids, it would be a confidence builder and a motivator for not only our kids, but for the community as a whole. We want the Flint Unity Farming Project kids to learn landscaping & gardening. Once they complete the 5 week course, they'll be certified and able to work for the Trevis Rouser Lawn Care Service that will be HQ'd on Addison Street as well. The kids will be able to have jobs year round cutting grass, planting flowers to shoveling snow.  We are still in a "work in Progress, and trying to got an idea of how to get this Project fully funded & operational without more wasted time.  And again, I special thanks to Aurora Innovations of Eugene, Oregon, for being the sole sponsor of the Flint Unity Farming Project. Without the donation, calls & assistance from Chris Smith and Mr. Drysdale, this project would never have started. I sent out over a thousand emails to foundations, groups, agencies & people LOCALLY to get assistance for this project.  Eugene, Oregon was over 2,395 miles away from Flint, Michigan. But not any more! Thank you Oregon for helping a community of people here in Flint, Michigan.   Connect with us:
